Rockies and Arenado reportedly close to an 8-year extension. Good for the Rockies if they lock down their stud 3B.
EDIT: Updated info has it at a $255m-$260m extension, which would put Arenado at the highest paid player in terms of annual comp at $32.5m.

Forgot to post this yesterday, but the Cards signed Miles Mikolas to a 4-year, $68m extension. The Lizard King was brilliant in 2018, his first year back from a few years playing in Japan, leading the big leagues with a terrific 1.3 BB/9 across just over 200 innings, racking up an 18-4 record with a 2.83 ERA and a 1.071 WHIP. He's the Cards Opening Day Starter.
Once again, smart teams doing smart things.

He pitched the Yankees into the playoffs. Then never wins another game. Small never learned anew in Japan but...

I remember that guy, what a weird little career he had, just looking at his numbers. He had this great little stretch of 76 innings that year, and the rest of his career is a dumpster fire.

I remember that guy, what a weird little career he had, just looking at his numbers. He had this great little stretch of 76 innings that year, and the rest of his career is a dumpster fire. The Red Sox tied the Yanks for 1st in '05. I remember thinking "why is the squid keeping the Yankees in it? He stinks". But we won every time after he came up.
Weird little baseball facts I love. The four pitchers in history who won 10 games w/o a loss
Aaron Small Dennis Lamp Tom Zachary Howie Krist
Not exactly household names. I remember Dennis Lamp. Tom Zachary gave up Ruth's 60 HR. All I know of Krist is he was a wartime pitcher for the Cards. A guy who got a reality check when the real players came back. No big names ever did it.

Dude, I swear on everything that is holy, if I hear Brian Kenney call this guy the Lizard King while him and Harold Reynolds are discussing the guys GWarfip or some other bullshit stat, I will take an ice-pick and shove it through my eye. Out here in the perimeter there are no stars....out here, we is stoned, immaculate.

Out here in the perimeter there are no stars....out here, we is stoned, immaculate. To address the Doors reference, I always thought "lost in a Roman wilderness of pain" was one of the great single lines in any song ever. Ranks up there with "You're nearly a laugh but you're really a cry". Always a big fan of good lyrics. That's why I was never a big Led Zeppelin fan. Plant's lyrics suck. Range from overpretentious, "If there's a bustle in your hedgerow, don't be alarmed now. It's just a spring clean for the May Queen", to juvenile " "Hey hey baby when you walk that way, watch your honey drip, can't keep away". GWAR wrote better lyrics.

I have no inkling as to how or why he has that moniker, but I'm with you, there is only one. Just like when dipshits were calling Ladanian Tomlinson "LT." Bullshit, there already was an LT. You can be LadyTom or whatever. Pussy.
