For someone that would only give RoP a 2/10 or possibly lower you sure did write a lot about it.

Come on, 2/10? It's not "that" bad. The story has some pretty interesting LOTR myths and lore about it. I like the direction it's going but without a doubt, the execution could have been better.
Seriously, things like kung fu elf and Galadriel acting like such a menace.. ugggg... it's a little on the farcical side.
However, beyond the silly quirks of the show, it's been entertaining.
If someone wrote this as a fanfic they'd have gotten roasted and ridiculed all over the internet.
Even CGI was frequently mediocre or bad. And music, while mostly fine, was not used properly.
Every other aspect of the show was terrible: writing, dialogues, directing, acting, design, editing etc.
If it was any other company I'd say it was a money laundering scheme.
Opinions vary...
Most of the reviews I've read seem positive about it. Of course, I don't trust reviews from "critics" that much.
But the poll taken here on IMDB v2 is split 50/50 between this and HotD. Fans seem to like it.
I suppose you could break down a few things about the series that works and a few things that don't.
I think we can all agree that the Galadriel story-line is just not working. Her thirst for vengeance is not in her character, at least it's not in the Jackson movies. And I don't ever remember her wielding a sword in the films either. So, again, not a very well thought out part of the show.
I am intrigued with the Durin and Elrond camaraderie they've got going, at this point, they're perhaps the two best characters in the show. the story-line is working here. There is mention of mithril in the books. Sure, it's debatable on whether or not the story-line surrounding the mining of this ore is any good, but i don't think it can denied that it's an interesting part of the LOTR myth and lore.
The Harfoots and the stranger (who is apparently Gandalf) are a cutesy bunch and do create some humor and a a mild pause from the more aggressive parts of the story. Nori and her fat friend along with the stranger are charming characters. I don't know for sure if I would call the story-line all that interesting but I like Nori.
Mordor works in my view. I could see how this could be how mordor formed in the movies and books. It's very plausible. Again, I think it's a good addition to the myths and lore of LOTR.
Numenor story is not the greatest but I could see how it could be used in the future to add more characters to the mix. At this point, I'm on the fence as to whether to not it was actually needed in this show.
Dialogue has been underwhelming, I will agree with you on that notion. But I wasn't expecting Shakespeare when watching this. I mean, even the Jackson films aren't that great dialogue wise. It worked for the movie but I couldn't tell you a single memorable quote from those films.
CGI and visuals. Honestly, this has been one of the best parts of the show. The cinematography has been quite good. Some of the CGI work have been lackluster but for the most part, I've been enjoying the visuals.
Overall, I think you could make a pretty good argument that they should have just made an entirely new story rather than using characters and locations from the books and whatnot, but the story is pretty solid in the way it connects the LOTR myths and the characters are not all that bad but not all that great either.
I'll give season 1 a solid 7.2 out of 10.
