If no one else else will make a proper thread I will. I watched the first two episodes and...it's good! My only complaint is the snow troll fight and the intro, which is underwhelming. Pleasantly surprised so far. I like that they're not rushing things. The pacing feels right to me.

Very unimpressed. To me, the worst movies and TV are the ones that waste great scenery and film work on poor scripts.
The scenery is spectacular, but the writing is too neo Nazi, and honestly, Tolkien was of the Nazi persuasion. Both he and Hitler were totally swallowed up by the Grimm Brothers seedling of Nazi ideology in believing God or Nature meant for women to be blond and fair, and men dark. Hollywood became totally out of control to this Nazi demon in the late sixties through the eighties, and now they're back.
Those who read the books will easily figure that the man falling from the sky is Gandalf very quickly. And the man on the raft with a king's emblem is more than likely a future Nazgul, if not the Witch King himself. There's absolutely no motivation to his character.
There is little believable motivation to any of the characters, and the "lines meant to be significant" are stupid. Clearly, the writing was forced and out of touch. The actors did a great job with what they had, and the cinematography and costumes were excellent. But, it is all wasted .
Since Feanor is mentioned, and there are going to be forty to sixty episodes, I expect there will be flashback scenes to the Silmarillion and the sons of Feanor. Maybe even an appearance of the surviving son, Maglor, who will be introduced with his mighty singing voice.
I don't mind if that happens, and I don't mind that Gandalf is poorly introduced, but the lame and predictable Hollywood introduction of the Nazgul member is too ridiculous, and honestly, what else can that character be?
2/10 so far, salvaged somewhat by a bit of decent comic relief, good scenery, and good costumes, but also, since those are wasted, it can't raise over 2/10

I've only seen the first episode.
Visually impressive. The rest was okay I guess. I'm not really feeling the characters so far. Maybe Arondir.

I tried a little bit of it late last night. It certainly looked expensive, but still rather fake. Much more like The Hobbit trilogy than the Lord of the Rings- at least in terms of visuals. Certainly far better than most tv shows though, I’ll give them that. The writing is surprisingly mediocre. What is the hook? What’s the story? What’s the plot? I couldn’t tell you. Granted, I’m only about halfway through the first episode but still. The characters are pretty dull as well. I don’t mind a slow pace but there’s no intrigue and nothing and nobody to care about. My primary interest was simply in seeing the world of Tolkien in the second age, but the world just feels so different from the one I know from the Jackson movies that I’m not sure I really care anymore. Is it even supposed to be the same canon? I can’t really get into it as it’s own thing either because it looks and feels like very generic second rate fantasy stuff. The sense of authenticity in the world building that I loved in Jackson’s epics is completely missing. I also want to point out that I’m on a FREE trial of Prime. I wouldn’t dare pay for that service and anyone who does is a big dummy. Yeah, I said it.

But they give out at least two months of free trial a year. More than enough time to watch a few shows.

Boy I’ll tell ya, this show is so boring Alexa asked me to change the channel! ![](https://media.giphy.com/media/3oD3YqPwr89pI4mnsc/giphy.gif) Amazon’s next project is a half a billion dollar can of paint- Prime members can watch it dry.

Nah. The movies are even slower than this show. Honestly only weirdos watch the movies more than 1 or 2 times. They are long as fuck and pretty boring in places.

It's good and will pack up pace soon. There are stupid reviews of it on IMDB and giving it 1/10 is just bullshit. A TV series doesn't move forward like a movie and many people just forget that.

I really enjoyed the first 2. Aesthetically the world is superb. It brings you right back into middle earth in both sound and visual. There’s a lot to digest character and plot wise and nobody jumps off the screen yet, but I’m plenty entertained so far.

That's seem to be the problem with how many people rate things today Its either 1/10 or 10/10. Nothing in-between
