People do love Star Wars, and its the only movies where I ever had the audience actually cheer when something happened. I remember when I saw Force Awakens, the audience definitely cheered and clapped a lot during the highlights of the film. Got the same response with the audience I had around me for Last Jedi. When the lights went out before the movie started, the audience was cheering and clapping. Then after the LUCASFILM logo, with the opening crawl with just "STAR WARS" alone, the audience cheered and clapped again.
Generally, they the audience laughed at the "funny" moments. The opening with Poe trolling Hux, a lot of the moments between Luke and Rey got the most laughter. The moments between Kylo and Hux got a lot of laughs as well, especially towards the end of the film.
Some of the biggest moments when the audience cheered were when Kylo killed Snoke and moved the lightsaber thru the air and Rey grabbed it and the "Jedi Theme" kicks in.
When Yoda first appeared, the audience definitely lost it and when he says "Young Skywalker", the audience clapped.
When Laura Dern's character went into hyperspace with the command ship thru the First Order ship, there was a lot of shock to it like "Whoa/Wow/Oh my god/Holy Shit!" reaction to it. Actually, I overheard someone say "Holy Shit". It was definitely an impressive moment and the sound design to it was amazing.
When the Falcon first shows up on Crait and takes out the Tie fighters, there was some cheering.
The audience cheered when Luke showed up on Crait and at the end of the moment between Luke and Leia, people clapped.
The audience cheered when Luke steps out of the smoke after being fired upon, and got a laugh out of "brushing" his shoulder.
There was some cheering and whistling when Luke was dodging Kylo's swings.
When Luke tells Kylo he won't be the last Jedi and it cuts to the floating rocks and we see Rey, that got some cheering and clapping as well, especially when Rey and Finn embraced. It was nice seeing them together again.
One of the biggest reactions was when it is revealed that Luke wasn't really one Crait and Force Projection. A lot were on board with it.
There was a nice kinda silent reaction to Luke's death when he fades away. Wasn't cheering or clapping, but it was still audible like "Oh damn/oh shit"
These were just some of the big moments that really got a reaction out of the audience. Then of course when the movie ends and you see the ending, there was an ovation, though not a standing one.

Some No's, damn's etc and gasps when Leia was shot out of the ship. And cheers when she used the force. Both times i've seen it with some variations.

I clapped when Leia saved herself with the Force.
Loved it.

Even though I despised the movie, I'll give an honest response.
The crowd did not react well to the Hux/Poe scene. The rest of the comedic moments were hit and miss. They seemed to murmur (possibly in confusion) at Luke's final scene on Ach-To. There were some gasps and some disgruntled responses when Snoke was dispatched, but more seemed to like it than not. One thing I can say for certain is that the crowd ate the Reylo stuff up completely. There was a mediocre clapping at the end of the movie, but by far the biggest pop of the night was when Rey and Kylo teamed up in Snoke's throne room. Excited clapping and "ooh/aah"ing during that exchange. It was by far the scene most well-received in the movie. I hated it, but what do I know, I'm just a fan.

Curious why people are thinking that is a negative parallel... LEIA USED THE FORCE! Go to the thread titled "Spoilery question about how Luke's story ends...". There's a really good argument about it. It starts at page 4 and goes from there.

My audience last night was really subdued, no cheering or clapping before, during, or after the movie. A few chuckles at the alleged "humorous bits", but nothing more. I think most of them were thinking the same thing I was, "Thank God I'm seeing this on cheap ticket night."

People in my theater laughed when they showed Snoke's dead face on the ground with this tongue hanging out.
They also laughed when Rose kissed Finn and then immediately passed out (ridiculous scene).
On my second viewing I was surprised that people cheered when it was revealed that Luke was a projection. Really surprised.

Just ridiculous. Space has never been as deadly in the Star Wars universe, Leia has more sensitivity to the force which gives her more resilience, and she used some small amount of Force power to pull herself back onto the ship. All there is to it.

So all you can do in response is create a circle jerk argument. No you are too dumb to understand that none of us can prove the other wrong about a fictional galaxy. We can try for a while, but then it's time to just give up. You will not convince anyone and won't be convinced. So spare us, pleeeease.
