what's the best genre out there?
guess this is all up to you on what you regard as a 'genre' and how you can split it up into sub-genres
i go:
1) horror 2) action 3) comedy 4) drama . . . . 5) fantasy/sci fi/adventure (this is pretty much the dorky Harry Potter and Super Hero crapola)

I'm surprised you have Aliens so far down. Only Alien and Aliens are worthy films as far as I'm concerned. After that, the series goes over a cliff. I truly despise Alien3. The AvP movies aren't even worth mentioning. Prometheus was so laughably bad that I have lost any interest in watching Covenant. What is A4?

Alien 4 is the 4th one with Winona Ryder - which shows I'm not biased - because I used to be in love with her - but the movie was garbage Alien 3 has such a tremendous setting. All doom and gloom. Very dark movie. Not only is Ripley fighting the Alien - but is on a planet with criminals - we learn that Newt died in the spacecraft after Aliens as well - how deliciously dark! The AvP movies? Great fun! Who would have thought we'd get two iconic characters going at it like Freddy and Jason! The 2nd - Requiem - is just great mindless fun and gore! Series fell off a cliff after them........

That is a very valid point. The one that I listed, Les Enfants du Paradis, is the film that blew me the farthest away, so to speak, but I have only watched it twice and even though I own the blu-ray I never have the urge to watch it again – whereas I could watch Raiders of the Lost Ark or Amélie or Back to the Future or Star Wars over and over again. Great point. I can watch The Matrix, Star Wars films, MCU films, etc. many times and never get bored while some 'better' movies tend to not get a rewatch. Although I still can watch The Godfather any time. While I agree that "favorite" differs from "best" in general, in this case for me it's interchangeable. I too can watch The Godfather any time.

The first thing you see when you come into my basement Hey Goodman, I have the bluray where they added the never before seen scenes and Wallach and Eastwood, todays' versions, did the looping for the scenes shot in the 60s. Wallach sounds pretty close to the same voice, but Eastwood sounds like a bad impersonator trying to do an Eastwood impression. Have you seen this version? There's just a couple scenes with this but it really sticks out.

Maybe "All the President's Men" although it seemed to end before the story was finished. Godfather or Godfather !!. 1 ahs Brando, !! had De Niro. Eeny, Meeny..... Butch and Sundance but turned into a travelogue halfway through Didn't recover until the shoot-out William Goldman fan? (my favorite writer) Read "Adventures in Screentrade," where he talks about writing All the Presidents Men and how the script is just a the first third of the actual book because that lent itself to a three act script. Great stuff. He also talks about researching Butch and Sundance and the making of the movie, great stuff. I have read William Goldman's book and his other one, Which lie will I tell. Maybe time for a reread. I was intrigued by his account of a meeting he had with Clint Eastwood. when he suddenty realised that Clint was forging a successful second career in the movie business. I agree, enjoyable informative reading.

Alien Franchise in Order: 1. Alien 2. Alien 3 3. AvP 4. AvP:R 5. Covenant - have yet to watch - but hearing/reading reviews feel confident with my ranking 6. Aliens 7. Prometheus 8. A4 I am sorry, but anyone who has both AvP movies over Aliens cannot be taken seriously. Comes down to personal taste. I'm a horror freak. Which is why I love the AvP movies. Now 'Aliens' was a decent flick - but to me - I just don't get all the love it garners. Some people view it as the superior film to Alien. To each their own. We all have different tastes. But to me 'Aliens' was just like T2 - yes - it was decent - but receives so much adulation from fanboys because it was a 'summer blockbuster' so to speak - I'm betting with a budget along the lines we had never seen before - especially in regards to their predecessors. Now this doesn't make T2 and Aliens bad movies - quite the contrary - I'm a fan - but I just don't hold it dear to my heart like some do. Now the AvP movies? A guilty pleasure. I own all of the above (except for Covenant which I've yet to even see). I've put the AvP movies in for a watch countless times over the years as opposed to Aliens - just comes down to personal taste for me - 2 iconic figures going at it. Popcorn flick - and mindless fun - especially AvP:R.
