looks like there's a lack of comedies in this thread...... greatest/favorite comedy of All-Time - like others have stated in this thread - guess it depends on the day of the week - but today I'm going: To me the best comedy of all-time is Monty Python and the Holy Grail. I can watch that movie over and over and still laugh as hard as the first time. is that stuff British? trying to think of some British Comedy I enjoy. being a horror fan - I think Shaun of the Dead is tremendous ![](https://s26.postimg.org/s8tffwvq1/cheers.gif)

Since this board is descended from IMDb, the main purpose of which was to browse and discuss movies, this is a valid question. I'll still mark it as OT though because, like it or not, this isn't IMDb. The Godfather (1972)Perfect movie. Every single scene, every single line. Can't be beaten. Yours? ------------------------ cannot pick one.
but the GF1 and 2 are up there
Magnola/boogie nights/the master
A clockwork orange
back to the future
naked
Kes/land of freedom
Days of Heaven

The Master, not one of my particular favorites, but holy hell are Joaquin Phoenix and Philip Seymour Hoffman just tremendous in it. Two of the best at the top of their game.

as acting goes - PTA elevates all his actors, from tom cruise, (Kubrick also did that) to mark wharlberg - to even great actors like Hoffman and Phoneix.
He gets so much out of them. I think DDL is just great in everything and no one but him is required..
There will be blood(when they collaborated) is a masterclass of vision , acting, and very relevant.
The master - you get what you want from it imo. It has layers, but it also has viewer interpretation...
I still cannot believe that PTA actually directed boogie nights at his young age... he either is a genius or had a lot of help imo.

One of the greatest 'Black Comedies' ever. Almost on par with 'American Psycho'. ![](https://s26.postimg.org/s8tffwvq1/cheers.gif) Come on. We've all been there if we're a white collared professional. Sometimes you just want your breakfast ![](https://s26.postimg.org/s8tffwvq1/cheers.gif) ![](https://s26.postimg.org/s8tffwvq1/cheers.gif) Definitely not intended as a comedy, but a comedy nonetheless. And a hilarious one to boot.

Was a massive PTA fan after seeing Hard Eight, BN's and Magnolia but I've never gone off a director so much from Punch Drunk Love onwards, will watch his movies but not looking forward to them

It's just a perfectly executed film in all respects. Script, the performances, the cinematography, the editing, the score, the swell of the story, you can't execute it any better than that. Also agree on Boogie Nights although it's not among my favorites. It's an impressive work from someone that age for sure and it's not without its qualities, but it falls apart for me about midway through.

what did you think about Batman Vs. Superman? i thought it was great - I don't get the hate from the comic book fanboys ![](https://s26.postimg.org/gf93ycxax/giveup.gif) I rate BvS a 7 out of 10. BvS was definitely better than that awful and crappy Captain America: Civil War. So many lies, so little time. Glad I had the foresight to bookmark this way back when, it was obvious that proving you to be a liar and a fraud would be not only easy (it takes mere seconds), but hilariously rewarding. Anyway... Katherine Heigl-Fan's IMDB profile So "the best comic book movie ever," these are YOUR WORDS, now you give it a 7 out of 10 for.....reasons. And don't give us some bullshit about how you changed your mind. Your mind isn't persuaded by things like facts, sound reasoning, or having consensual sex with females.

It would be between Downfall, The Departed, Once Upon A Time In The West, No Country for Old Men, and Unforgiven. That's the Top 5, no clue what order If I had to pick, probably Downfall, though I rewatched The Departed more than any other movie

"It rubs the lotion on it's skin or else it gets the hose again" - Jamie Gumb aka Buffalo Bill
Silence of the Lambs - A masterpiece in the study of serial killers. Great acting throughout. It still outshines the movies that try to duplicate it.

Oh realllllly? ![](https://s26.postimg.org/ntbgu109l/odd.gif)

For the books, Red Dragon > SOTL > all the other books are terrible
