I wonder what Tony Stark is going to do. Doctor Strange must have spared his life for a reason.

Bingo. One or two of the usual suspects who grew tired of their roles would have been believable. But hoards of freshly developed guys with projects on the horizon is an obvious faux-death MCU sham again - which is already announced to be retconned by virtue of magic stone (Marvel fans can debate if its Soul, Time or Dance off Stone). This was not an ending but a second act cliffhanger.

It's the difference between child-like sandbox playing and adult awareness of dramatic finality.

Tristan Incarnate: Didn't DC do this with BvS with killing Superman only to bring him back in JL, hell they heavily hinted that Superman wasn't dead at the very end of BvS, but its A-ok to you when DC did that. Didn't Fox-Men do this with DOFP where they killed off many X-Men and other mutants only to have a happily ever after ending where they ALL come back to life, but again its A-ok when FOX did it. But if the MCU does it well then it is a problem....

I think it's an "Excuse" to get the next movie down to basics. Essentially the only people left are the OG Avengers.
So while obviously all the others will be revived through the time stone, or soul stone, or they will have Thanos re-boot the universe (look it up, it's actually a solid theory)...
The OG Avengers will be the main characters and will suffer heavy casualties. I will bet at the very least we lose BOTH Tony and Cap.

Granted this happened in the comics. Eventually Thanos is stopped and his damage is undone.
But given the fact that that Marvel Studios likes to change the source material up some I wouldn't be surprised if Avengers 4 gives us some permanent deaths.
I mean their universe is getting crowded and they have a whole lot more characters they can bring in future installments.

I know they wont/cant do this but it woulda been cool if Adam Warlock shows up in the next part, looks at the situation and the remaining Avengers alive and says this isnt enough to take on Thanos. Then he asks Dr Strange to open up a portal and bring in the Xmen/F4 from an alternate reality to join the Avengers and launch one last mega assault on the mad Titan.

The earliest tickets I coud get were for midnight so 10 hours from now. I read the Forbes spoiler article so it makes sense. The Hulk thing makes sense. The Stark/Spiderman thing makes a world of sense. Remember Stark's words in Homecoming. But, yeah. 10 hours. Been watching Kimmel all week. I'm a Colbert gal otherwise.

Ah so they commit to that plot element eh? Noice. Looking at the cast for part 4, it's the same as before so perhaps that's what happens.

I think Black Panther and Spider-Man are obviously going to stay dead. Two of the most popular ones in the the lineup? Not likely. That's a DCEU move there.

I was thinking the time stone would be used to reverse everything but on that scale, there would be some side effects ie some people actually staying dead. At one point I almost thought there was going to be a MCU version of house of M and scarlet witch goes mental and changes reality by herself
