When I cut through the BS, here is all of the 1980's movies worth mentioning for me personally...
1)Scarface (1983) - 8/10 -)The Color of Money (1986) 3)Rain Man (1988) - 7.5-8/10 -)Lethal Weapon (1987) -)Planes, Trains & Automobiles (1987) 6)Blood Simple (1984) 7)Road House (1989) - 7/10 -)Christmas Vacation (1989) -)Licence to Kill (1989) -)Top Gun (1986) -)The Natural (1984) (easily the #1 baseball themed movie straight up if you ask me) 12)Back to the Future (1985) - 6.5-7/10
p.s. those are the only 1980's movies among My Favorite Movies in general which contains 155 movies out of the 2,300+ total movies I have seen.

Not many greats and quite a bit of mediocrity. Worst decade of the 20th century.

It's like being back in the video store as a kid, with wall after wall of tantalising titles there to tempt. I'd always be suckered in by the covers with hot women in states of undress, only to discover said woman wasn't even in the movie when I got home and watched it (she was a figure model for hire!).

Great looking picture you got there, OP.
The 80s had many faults, but what a great decade for movies and music it was.
My Top 3 mainstream titles from that decade would be Back to the Future, Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan and Batman, but there are so many other fabulous ones.
It was a fine decade for horror as well (much like the 70s). Also the golden age of the campy horror comedy subgenre, i.e. Night of the Creeps, TerrorVision. My pick for No.1 horror film of the 80s has to be The Evil Dead.

Noticeable absence of Raging Bull As you well know, the Movie Quote/ Star Trek: TOS Threads started with an '80s movie. And the '80s continue to be well represented over at the Movie Quotes board. 80s definitely had a lot of lows but some really good highs. Highs that films today struggle to emulate

I'd always be suckered in by the covers with hot women in states of undress, only to discover said woman wasn't even in the movie when I got home and watched it (she was a figure model for hire!). Yeah, each picture of all those famous or pretty well known 80s titles, got me very nostalgic, in a good way I guess. And what is quite impressive, is how striking most of the posters really are in design, colors and more. Specially with so many featured all at once, and still many of them stand out, either because they look interesting, sexy, exciting or just downright silly. But that rarely happens anymore, as I guess that kind of art of making or coming up with great/striking moiveposters design/art, is mostly done these days through Photoshop or something that look like it took about 5-6 minutes to make, sadly. Also, yes, I sure know the feeling of only ending up with an "interesting" film, because of some random hot babe on the front cover, to later on realize she was just hired for that simple reason to help fool guys like me, to waste their time and money on a real piece of turd.
